Since 1998, a year after the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, every December 10, the world celebrates the International Day of Animal Rights. On this day, we highlight the importance of fundamental animal rights and the work of the people that pushes for more animal protection in the law.
Behind every success, there is an enormous work of activists who come from different disciplines. Veterinarians, lawyers, anthropologists, communicators, philosophers, among many others, have contributed to shaping the animal rights movement. It is not an easy task, in an anthropocentric world, to recognize that animals have not only the right to live but also the right of enjoying a life free from exploitation.
Today, there are even government agencies responsible for ensuring that animals rights are respected.
Thanks to the legislation on animal welfare, it has been possible to guarantee basic animal welfare standards, prohibit practices that affect the integrity or welfare of animals and establish penalties and punishments for those who violate the rules. Today, there are even government agencies responsible for ensuring that animals rights are respected.
It is equally encouraging to observe that societies are becoming more compassionate and inclusive. Every year more actors are involved in the animal rights discussion, academia, the government and citizens increasingly demand more justice for animals.
Let’s highlight the achievements in 2021 in favour of animals and their rights. Societies are moving forward, don’t miss it!
